What errors are in the Netbackup logs?

by: honmapogPosted on 2007-12-29 at 04:13:59ID: 20547553

Windows 2008 is not on the list of supported Operating Systems for any version of NetBackup (current SCL at http://ftp.support.veritas.com/pub/support/products/NetBackup_Enterprise_Server/278064.pdf - updated mid december).

Often you can get away with running a backup of generic volumes (C, D, ...)  if your OS in not on the SCL. But a System State backup is such a specialised backup that it generally doesn't work if your OS is not on the SCL.

You'll probably have to wait until Symantec fixes their code and certifies Windows 2008 for NetBackup.

Yes I know that Windows 2008 is not on the list of SCL. But here the issue is the native system state backup for windows 2008 does not work when netbackup client is installed. Any specific reason for this issue.

by: honmapogPosted on 2008-01-02 at 11:48:02ID: 20567189

I wouldn't know what the issue could be.
If the event logs don't have further clues about the cause of the failure when the netbackup client is installed, then the only suggestion I have is to use the Sysinterals utilities such as filemon, regmon and procmon to see what's going on. But I'd say the chance of finding something is lower than 5%.

Does system state work after you uninstall NetBackup?
If so, I would guess that NetBackup is installing libraries that are incompatible with system state.

I have got the answer to my question from Symantec Dev Team. I would like to close this question as none of the above solutions give me a solution

by: honmapogPosted on 2008-01-04 at 10:27:46ID: 20584812

Could you please share the answer from the Symantec dev team, so everyone can benifit?

by: jawednPosted on 2008-01-07 at 05:59:51ID: 20599264

The answer from Symantec Dev team is that they are aware about the issue and still working on it as of now. Since Windows 2008 is not offically launched by MS, the work is still on as to why system state backup does not work with netbackup installed on Windows 2008.
I do not have the concerete answer, but I just know that they are working on the issue.

Hence I have advised that this question be closed as this is a know issue and there is no answer for it as of now.
