Brighstor scheduled job runs slow

Hello Experts!

1. I have a Windows 2003 R2 fully patched server, dedicated to running CA Brightstor Archserve SP3.
2. I am backing up 5 Windows servers that are all on the same subnet (connected to the same switch), connected via 1 Gbps NICs and have the Windows Brightstor agent installed(sp3 applied).
3. I have configured a disk staging job (using the free 2 subjobs allowed with a standard license) to backup the job to disk (2 gbps fiber dedicated SAN) and then it migrates to a tape after the job is finished (also 2 Gbps fiber).
4. The disk staging group is configured to use a 64 chunk size, as that seems to have yielded the best results for the various servers I am backing up.
5. Server is an IBM x345, dual CPU, 2 GB of RAM, and IBM DS400 fiber attached storage.

Here is my issue:
When I run the configured job manually, I achieve excellent results, around 2+ GB per minute. However, when this same job is schedule to run at 11pm at night, it runs drammatically slower, around 800 MB per minute.

What I have done:
I have run the same scheduled job for 30 minutes during the day and it seems to achieve the 2+GB per minute that I expect.

I have checked to see if there was anything running on the source and target servers, including AV scans, disk defrags, other schedule jobs, but have found nothing that would cause this as we have our backup window pretty quiet on all systems during that time.

This leads me to believe there is something else saturating the network, but I have some solid dual Cisco 1 Gbps switches and I find it hard to believe there is actually a bottleneck happening. And again, we keep our systems pretty quiet during that period of time, especially the source servers.

Are there any known fixes for this issue? Cannot locate any in SupportConnect @ CA.

As a stab in the dark, I plan to set the job to write to tape in case it is somehow related to the disk subsystem. But again, my manual tests write very well to the disk on every attempt, so I do not expect any difference.

PLEASE HELP - Have not had a decent backup for over a week!
