I have a HP Proliant ML370 G3 server running Windows SBS 2003 SP2, with CA Brightstor ARCserve r11.5 SP3 for SBS and an internal HP DAT 72 SCSI tape drive. However, the tape drive appears offline from time to time and therefore backups fail when in that state. If I highlight the device in ARCserver --> Device and choose "Online", the device comes back online and the backups complete.
The server RSM has the device listed as disabled (I've even tried enabling here and disabling again). I've updated the firware on the device (a HP C7438A) to V601 and the latest driver installed (HP 1.6.0.0). I've even tried to swap the SCSI card (HP 64-0Bit/66MHz Dual Channel Ultra3 SCSI Adapter) into a different port, but no change. I've also updated the firware and driver of the SCSI card (driver 6.4.645.100).
The server is completely up to date in terms of hardware and MS patches and I've downloaded just about every HP patch I could find for any appropriate hardware and software, including HP Tape Tools, but occasionally the device appears offline in ARCserve and I really do not have a clue why or what left to do????? Help greatly appreciated.
