DPM 2007  not option to backup system state

i see from MS  guides and the help files plenty of stuff on how to restore but none on how to back up, watched a webcast that showed system state as a sperate icon, which i dont see.

had a similar issue with sharepoint  which was resolved by running  configuresharepoint.exe part of the dpm client

but stuck on the system state
