I just finished attempting a restore from my Maxtor One Touch III MIni.
I have used this on my laptop since last fall and have been religious about performing backups every 2nd or 3rd day because of the critical nature of my files.
Last Friday, I attempted to run XP Pro SP3 on the laptop (Toshiba Techra A9-ST9002), but the system appeared to lock up. I let it sit overnight in hopes that it was just taking a long time (as a lot of MS upgrades seem to do - w/o showing any progress) - but woke in the morning to a locked up computer.
After attempting to cancel, restart, etc. by the usual means, I finally resorted to shutting down with the power button.
That was the end of it! Only was able to get to a reclycling BLACK Windows error screen after that.
Ran the Toshiba RESTORE disks this AM (after talking with tech support) - which wiped all data from my hard drive - but - no problem - I had just recently backed up.
Imagine my disgust (!) when I now find that Maxtor's "synching" backup as well as the One Touch back up apparently do NOT back up Outlook!!!
Why in the world would I expect a mainline software package to back up one of the most used e-mail programs anyway? How foolish of me!!
Is there any package out there that will do a full system backup of a single computer so that one has full disaster recovery?
Everyone I have looked at over the past few years seems to be less than automatic if you want a 100% backup of everything on your drive.
I am so absolutely disgusted with MS, Maxtor & Seagate for being caught with my pants down - again - when I thought I had myself covered!
