The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Dell Vista PC missing "repair your computer" from "advanced boot options"

I am working on a Dell C521 vista system that the EU ran a recovery on the C: drive but ended up installing 2 copies of windows on the drive and somehow windows would flip between each install basically every time you would reboot the PC, they then deleted the C: drive and when they tried to access the "advanced boot options" menu after hitting F8 on startup the "repair your computer option was gone... this is how I received the PC.  The recovery partition looks to be unharmed on the D: drive  (hard to tell if any damage was done at this point until I can attempt a recovery).  I did some research on my own, trying to recreate the "repair your computer" and following the instruction to-a-T at this link http://www.svrops.com/svrops/articles/winvistare.htm and now that I have the repair your computer option back, I can choose it and proceed through the menu choosing my language, time and keyboard type, and then at the option where I can either "install now" or choose "repair your computer" if I choose repair your computer and choose my account, I try the "windows complete PC restore" but it tells me that "No valid backup locations could be found".... all this being said, I want to be able to access the partition on the D: drive so that I can get this computer back to the way it was when it was shipped from dell.... to me it seems like it is not searching from the D: drive or that I am still missing a few things to get the "repair your computer option working the way it did when dell had it setup... so this is where I am at.... worst case scenario, I have the dell vista DVD and I can install off of that, but the end user wants to be able to recover this system from the partition at need and if you install off the DVD you lose all the preinstalled crap that came with vista and it makes the recovery time 10X longer than if we were able to access the recovery partition... thank you and ask Q if you have them
