Part of the upgrade is an upgradfe to the Networker database, so your simplest approach is:
Get in touch with EMC LIcensing to organise a new enabler - the new server will have a different host ID, so your licensing will break. EMC will provide new enablers providing your software support is up to date
Upgrade Networker to 7.4 on your existing server. Part of the upgrade process updates the Networker databases.
Run a backup and note where the bootstrap is saved to. You'll need this tape when you move to the new server.
Build your new backup server with Windows 2003
Install Networker 7.4 on the new server
Install your new licenses
Mount tje tape with the bootstrap.
Run scanner -B (finds the bootstrap on the mounted tape)
Run mmrecov and follow the prompts to restore the bootstrap
Once the bootstrap is recovered, stop the NetWorker services, rename the \res directory to \res-save. Rename \res.R to \res and restart the Networker services.
Run nsrck -L7 to recover the Client File Index
Start the NetWorker User client on teh Networker server. Click Recover. Choose the original Networker server as the client. Choose the new Networker server as the destination. Select these save sets for recovery:
- All local drives (except Networker directories
- system files
- system db
- system state
Choose Overwrite existing files under Recovery Options. Reboot the server once the restore is complete.
Every bit as easy as it sounds... :-)
