Question

What is the best imaging software between Acronis, ShadowProtect, and Ghost?

Asked by: hermesalpha

What is the best imaging software between Acronis TrueImage, ShadowProtect Desktop, and Ghost?

I have a Windows XP Pro SP3, 32-bit, HP Compaq nx7300, 2GB RAM, and also a netbook: ASUS EeePC 1000He (Intel Atom). I want to use the best imaging software on both my laptop and netbook.

Removed from Imaging Software (which is graphic images, not drive imaging)
Added to Storage -> Backup / RestoreRemove and Storage -> Disaster Recovery

I find both Acronis True Image a very easy and working software for that purpose. I don't use Ghost for like 6-7 years but back in the days it was kinda complicated to get it working properly, of course it probably has changed alot, but my recommendation sticks with Acronis solution.

Just to clarify, "both" was a typo.

Is Acronis Backup & Recovery 10WS just a newer version of Acronis True Image?
Can I use Acronis Backup & Recover 10WS in the same way as Acronis True Image?

Yes its exactly that, i don't know the product but according to them its the "next generation of the Acronis True Image disaster recovery product" and it has the same features of the product i said.

Acronis is definitely the best choice..  its compression is great and it operation much faster than ghost.  In my experience; 1 out of maybe 100 images will be corrupt, so for critical images check the box that says something like verify image on completion.

As to your other question about the versions, check out:

http://www.acronis.com/backup-recovery/comparison.html

also, acronis has cool features like you can create a virtual hard drive for a VM based on an image and if you get universal deploy you can redeploy the image to a machine with different hardware, even different HALs.

I vote for acronis i use it and i love it.

Should I choose Acronis True Image Home 2009? I will soon run a small translation agency, work from home, do you think home-edition is sufficient? Can I have virtual drives also on the home-edition?

It seems like Acronis Backup & Recovery is the server version.
