Possibly those files are open? Are they important for the backup? Do you have the open-files agent installed?

If they are opened, that may be the reason. Try this regedit:

Start regedit.
Locate the Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Engine\Backup
Find the dword: Fail Jobs On Corrupt Files you'll notice it is set at 1. modify it to 0.

If it doesn't exist, create it.

Hi Rbarnhardt,

Currently this setting in regedit is set to 1. but before I change it to 0, can you confirm something for me.

I get the impression that changing this setting will only mean that when a corrupt file is backed up, the job will still say successful instead of failed.

However Im not sure this is the sollution for my scenario because If a file was corrupt wouldnt Backup Exec say something like "Unable to open, item corrupt"

Ok, Ive made the changes in regedit but the backup still failed.

As the first person asked, do you have the open file agent installed? If not, could it be these files are considered "open"? You could switch BackupExec to backup open files "without a lock". This is located in the advanced section of the job properties.

I've rebooted the server which has the files that are skipped.
Additionally I noticed that if remote into this server and I try to copy these files to another folder, I get the error message:

Error Coping File or Folder
Cannot copy INDEX: There has been a sharing violation.
The source or destination file may be in use.

I'll check out the "backup open files "without a lock" setting later, about to go home now.

It does sound like the files are in use and if you don't have the AOFO license installed, then it cannot backup open files. Checking that option should allow you to fully back them up.

Solved it,
The skipped files had nothing to do with the backup failing. It was because of the message "Unable to attach to \\FCS_FACTS_OCR_P\D$."

This location doesnt exist and has now been removed from the selection.
