Question

arcserve 11.5 file exclude pattern

Asked by: ndidomenico

I need to exclude from my backup all *.wav files that could be anywhere within a specific parent directory (ex: D:\Share\ProjectA) and any of its subdirectories, while  still backing up *.wav files that could be in other directories (ex: D:\Share\ProjectB, D:\Share\ProjectC, etc).  I cannot completely exclude ProjectA directory since it contains other types of files I need to backup.

What kind of file or directory filter could I use to accomplish that ?

If I use an exclude pattern such as "D:\Share\ProjectA\*.wav", will it also exclude other .wav files that would be in subdirectories of ProjectA ?

Thanks.

p.s. Could not find any Arcserve Zone (not a good sign), thought BackupExec might bring me somebody knowing Arcserve...

hi,

yes when you set that filter it will only apply that filter for that specific folder and its sub folders and not on the top level folders.

at the same time if this is only one machine then instead of using global filters on the top use the machine level filters.

regards
bhanu

machine level filters ??? where do I find this option ?

by: dovidmichelPosted on 2009-10-31 at 18:01:59ID: 25712252

Right click off the volume name (or maybe the system name forget for sure) for specific options like filters & security.

Way back I requested an ARCserve forum and was ignored and then got kind of pissed when they added all these new forums for stuff that has way fewer users like grid, commvault, and retrospect. So I complained and was again ignored. But then version 12 was released and it really has been such a good release that the number of problems has gone way down, so I don't care any more. CA hosts user forums for its products. If you are interested let me know and I'll post the URL for the ARCserve forum tomorrow (don't have it handy now).
