Backup solution

Hi all,

Were getting a new DC, and I was wondering what I should use for a backup solution. We currently are using Dat72, and just started using 2 tapes for our full backups.

Are Hard drives they way to go? I have also been looking at Acronis as the backup software.

Hard drives sound like an ideal solution but those could always crap out over time.  At least with tapes you can store them in a safe location, separate from your facility.  You wouldn't want to keep them in the same location, think about it (you store them in the same building and something catastrophic happens.  Now your drives and tapes are kaput) You should also look into the HP Storageworks 1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader,  we were backing up over a 1TB data on our network.  The web interface made it a lot easier for our techs to manage backups and restore data if need be.

ASKER

Were not backing up a whole lot of Data... I think an autoloader might be a waste.

I would suggest reviewing my backup comment/article - tape is almost certainly a waste for you.  Disk is probably best and third party software can make sense.  But in the end, your environment and requirements are likely different from everyone elses.  If you educate yourself on the options you can make the best decision for you.

(I've not had time to update it significantly in the last year or two, so some of the cost estimates may be off, but it still holds largely true overall).
...I was hoping it might be more cut and dry.
I guess it would depend on the amount of hard drive space I can get in our new DC... I'll call Some manufatures and see what they recommend
This helped.... but I still don't know what I should be doing for backups.

I'll probably have more questions to post, thanks for the help at the moment
Leew I gave you points.... but somthing got messed up.
