Backup to internal SATA hot swap drive bay.
We have an internal hot swap able drive bay we would like to use for daily backups. It is running windows server 2003 enterprize ED R2. My goal it to be able to assign the same drive letter to mutiple drives that get changed out every day. The problem is windows just see's it as disk one and doesn't assign it a drive letter unless you manually assign it the same drive letter every time you change out the drives. Does anyone know of a registry setting or some sort of software I can use to accomplish this? I would perfer a registry setting if possible.
As long as you boot the computer with only one drive connected, It till assign it as C:, and after it boots up, you can connect the 2nd drive to use for backup.

Ok, so esata comes up as the same drive letter everytime even if you are swaping out drives.
You wisely chose an eSATA combo that is actually designed properly. Just for the benefits of others, what did you purchase?

I have not purchased one yet, I was asking a question. Does esata come up as the same drive letter every time it is swapped out with a different drive?
it is supposed to, but depends on the implementation. same make , model of disk and same volume name (from windows)... and same partition layout.. plus the hotswap.
contact the enclosure and controller vendor. they will be able to confirm for their hardware.

So far I have found no hardware that will do this. Windows is going to assign it a different drive letter everytime even if it is the exact same type of hard drive or no matter what the connection type. Any other suggestions?

That is exactly what I've been looking for! I don't see a price though, do you know how much it cost for the software?
