How to Get MS Backup Utility Work Correctly

Am trying to run Microsoft Backup Utility. Once I check all the options start to run it, it runs and then before backup finishes I get  a 'disk full' message. Even though I have over 200 GB on the external hard disk.

I then tried doing backup on the laptop itself, it worked fine, but when tried to copy the bkf file over to the external drive, I also get a 'disk full' message. I tried to rename the file into .txt, but still wont work.

When I do a normal copy of the same contents, I CAN copy al the file, about 20 GB or so.Am using Windows XP Professional on Compaq 6710b.

I have tried this on an external HD, and also a 32GB flash memory, both failed.
