How do I schedule a backup in TSM in linux on the command line. I am a newbie and need to configure a few schedules to run hourly

You need to create a scheduled with the "define schedule" command on your TSM Server
An example is in the code, but use the command "Help define sched" for more info.
After this, you need to define association for a node in that domain.
define assoc domain_name sched_name node_name
Then restart your scheduler on your client.

for a scheduled, _immediate_ backup of your node, issue on the command line or in a script:
dsmadmc -id=[your_tsmuser] -pass=[your_tsmpasswd] DEFINE CLIENTACTION [your_node]
DOMAIN=[domain_of_your_nod
This schedule will run immediately and only once. The scheduler service/process on your client machine must have been started.

Hi again,
if you only want to run a backup under control of your client computer,
simply issue:
'dsmc i all-local'
or (to run in background with logging):
'nohup dsmc i all-local >[/path/to/logfile] 2>&1 &'
For a completely unattended run you must have 'PASSWORDACCESS GENERATE' in your dsm.sys and you must have been logged in at least once to your server.
Instead of something like 'all-local' on the command line you can have 'DOMAIN' statements in your dsm.sys naming the filesystems you would like to backup (or even 'all-local' if you prefer).
