While you could probably restore the files across platforms, there is no way you would be able to start up the database.

With Oracle 9, there only way to move a database to a different platform is through exp/imp.

Hi

Cross platform restore from any backup job is not supported. And in this case as said by john, you can try import and export of data or for failure scenario you can use oracle datagaurd technology, which does a log shipping and brings up the standby server in no matter of time. Or else you can use Oracle fail safe for disaster recovery.

Just to add.

Dataguard and fail safe would require the same platform.  You cannot do cross platform with either of those products.

If you were on at least 10, Oracle claims that transportable tablespaces are usable across platforms.  I have not personally tried that out, but that is the claim.  You would be able to put the tablespaces in read only, transport them out, then copy them and transport them back in.  Once the copies have been made and the original files are no longer needed, the original tablespaces can be put back in read write.
