I tried - but it does not work.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI'm looking for the rsync syntax to synchronize only certain file types (*.c *.h *.htm) in a directory tree (/home/user/dir) on two linux machines.
I have tried following command (on the local machine):
rsync -e ssh -avz --include-from="filter.txt
The file filter.txt contains:
+ **/*.htm
+ **/*.c
+ **/*.h
- *
But when that rsync command is executed, nothing seems to be matched!!
Thanks in advance!

I have found a way that works. It is probably not the world's most elegant one... I use two file matching patterns in the rsync command directly, without the "--include-from" option.
rsync -e ssh -avz /home/user/dir/**/*.[c,h,h
"dir/**/*.[c,h,htm]" matches the wanted file types in all subdirs below dir, but not in dir itself.
"dir/*.[c,h,htm]" matches the wanted file types in dir itself.

Try -
+ *.htm
+ *.c
