rsync "failed verification -- update discarded" warning

Asked by aolejniczak in rSync Backup Utility, Network Design & Methodology, Miscellaneous Networking

Hello, and thanks in advance for any help.  I have been using rsync to successfully backup individual directories (recursively) from one remote drive to another on my local network.  Occasionally, and always with files that are greater than 1.0 GB, I receive a warning that a file has failed verification, "read errors mapping", and ultimately that particular file is not synced.  Literally thousands of smaller files (up to 1.04 GB) are transferred successfully this way daily.

The setup is this: I am using an OSX Leopard terminal to execute the rsync command, the source files are on an OpenVMS system on the same local network, and the destination volume is a Lacie backup drive also on the same local network.  Please let me know if I can supply any more information.

An example of the warning is given below.
