I have been using several different USB External enclosures all with different drives ....basically with no problem at all. All of a sudden for no reason I am having a serious problem that must be something other than drive failure. Drive worked normally when plugged into a normal 2.0 USB port. Info window would come up, drive would show up in Explore (Sometimes taking over a drive letter that needed changed...but not always) Disk management would always show the drive with no problem. For no reason...(I didn't drop anything or zap the drives with static or anything like that) the drive will not show up. Computer would do the normal beep of recognition....then after about 30 seconds or so the removal beep would sound. The drive showed up in the device manager.....but for the life of me I can't get it to show or stay recognized. Drive was working fine. A third enclosure I have still works fine. I had one that worked fine so I took the drive out of the failing enclosure and put it in the enclosure that was working with another drive....still no go....THEN when I put the working drive back into the enclosure that it was working in, it started to do the same failure as the one I was having trouble with. Now I have two separate enclosure with two drives both failing. ..One does the Recognize beep .....30 secs later......removal beep.No show anywhere. The other gives the recognize beep and shows up in device manager but not in Disk management.
Any ideas.......how do I troubleshoot these darn things.
