Space issues,2003 server. Can I delete .msp files without causing problems?

Windows 2003 server:  C: = 200ish mb,  D: several hundred gig left.
Seeing as I only have roughly 200 mb left on my C partition,  I need to free up space.  Was going to re-partition, however thats not an option at the current time.  I was looking at my larger files and I have quite a few gig of ( .msp ) files.  Can I delete or move these files without major problems?  Or, what other files/folders can I delete OR move that would free up lots of space.  Thanks in advance !

Yes and No.

If you delete any of that then any installer stored there can't be accessed again. If you have programs that you want to uninstall or change options on you will not be able to. If you are certain that you are never going to uninstall them it is safe to do so. Windows Service Packs are stored there and any time a hardware change happens it needs to access additional features of the service pack. If you are very careful you can do this but it is extremely easy to delete stuff that you'll need forcing you to reinstall just so you can uninstall.

Your best bet is to delete the uninstall folders/files from the Microsoft updates that are older than 3 months.  If you server is running fine, you will not need these.

Here are some ways you can clean up files easily:

all windows\$NtUninstall*$ files can be deleted, they are really only needed if you plan on uninstalling updates.
You could also move the page file...That would free up a bit of space:

MSP files are Windows Installer Patch. You can safety delete this files if you don`t plan to uninstall hotfixes and service packs. Look in your WINDOWS\Temp folder for additional files to delete.

Also you can mount a a volume in a empty folder if you need a lot of space.

What would be the damage in just moving these files and folders to the D: drive?
In this case you neither can uninstall hotfixes and patches, but you have the opportunity to return the msp files to its original location in case you want to unistall those patches

oswaldofarith can you be a litle more clear.  If I move those files to the D: drive will there be an issue?
If at some point I needed to uninstall could I not just move the files back to thier original destination?
