The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. RAID driver for Windows Reinstall

In case you don't know the Windows XP Reinstall CDs will not work with RAID HDs because they do not download the RAID driver. At least the RAID drivers that are ACTUALLY USED IN PCs. NOTE: These CDs were made in 2004, please keep that in mind.

However, they give you an option to add the driver ON A FLOPPY ONLY.  I know this because I put one on a CD and tried to browse to it and got and error about it must be on a floppy. (IF YOU ARE SURE THAT IT CAN BE ON A CD, PLEASE REPLY TO THAT EFFECT as I have only tried this once).

NOTE: The option to add a RAID driver appears very soon after booting from the Windows XP Reinstall CD. It says something like "Press F2 (or maybe F3) if you have a RAID driver" or something similar. Then the install moves on and about a minute later (not immediately after pressing F2 or F3) a dialog comes up asking you to load the RAID driver and to browse to the location).

SO....... for a given PC how do I find the RAID driver that fits on a floppy . i.e I provide the PC manufacturer and model (for any PC, ie my question is a general question) , where do I find the driver AND is it the folder containing the driver or an EXE file that creates that folder.

I believe that you can NOT answer this unless you have encountered and solved this problem.

I AM NOT DONE YET. I do not use the Windows CD to do a scratch reinstall of Windows; I use it do a Repair or Windows Partition reinstall of Windows. Hence I can NOT go into the BIOS and change the Sata drive settings to "Sata/Pata" or similar (i.e NOT RAID) because I must read what is on the HD now which means I must install the RAID driver the PC uses to access the HD.
