4 terabyte drive only showing 2 terabyte space in windows xp

hi
i have a video editing system recently one of my user has connected the 4 terabyte hard drive with it but when he sees in the system the hard drive only showing 2 terabyte space

Windows XP only supports disks up to 2 TB

From http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/GPT_FAQ.mspx
"Windows XP and the original release of Windows Server 2003 have a limit of 2TB per physical disk, including all partitions."

Check also the section "Windows XP Disk Support"
You have to use Windows XP x64 or Vista or Windows Server 2003 or 2008.

Single drives max at 2TB...so I guess you tried to use an array.

XP/Win2003 32 bits is limited by the 2TB limit of the MBR partitionning scheme...and you can not use the GPT partitionning scheme on those 32 bits OS.

You may only use 2TB MBR partitions:
-using the drives in "<usable 2TB" arrays
-using each drives separately

This may although be more efficient for your usage as writing from 1 array while reading from another one will always be faster than copying on the same array.

I think if you convert the drive to GPT partitioning style then you will be able to work with entire space of 4TB.
But before conversion you need to copy out data from this drive, delete all volumes from it and the in Windows Disk Management right click on the drive - Convert to GPT.
Note, GPT is supported by Windows Server 2003 or Vista based systems only.
XP does not support it.
If you want to have it working with XP then brake the RAID and use two separate drives.
BTW, is this an external enclosure?

thanks i have spoken to the hard drive manufacture now the problem is ressolved
