Brand New Harddrive, Unmountable Disk Error...

Asked by EMB01 in PC Laptops, Computer Hard Drives, Windows XP Operating System

Tags: harddrive, laptop, unmountable disk, error

My laptops harddrive crashed so I got a new one.  I put Windows XP on it and installed some software that came with it when I got it...  Everything was working fine for a few weeks; but, today I booted it up and tried to go to the internet and a blue screen appeared.  It said something like this:

"An error has occured...  If this is a new setup ask your hardware provider for Windows updates... etc."

Then, I restarted and the blue screen appeared again.  This time it said:

"Error on login process...  Unmountable Disk Error... If this is a new setup ask your hardware provider for Windows updates... etc."

I can get you the exact error message codes if need be...  Moreover, I noticed my "Remove Hardware" icon has always appeared in my toolbar.  When I click it, it shows my DVD-RW drive and says I should remove it...  That seemed odd to me since it's not some thumbdrive, it's my DVD-RW, installed directly in the laptop!

Please help...  It's a brand new harddrive and I'm not sure what to do nor why this is happening.
