Veritas Backup Exec + Exchange Server 9.0 + x.stf
So I have a win 2k server running exchange server. Its also running backup exec. So up until the end of november everything was great. Since then the backup fails everynight with an exception. The backup hits a file in the exchange server folder \Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\. The first month the name of the file that backup exec was unable to backup was "9.stf", now the name of the file has change to "1.stf" I dont know what this file does or why I cant back it up. any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

OK, now that I know what they are how do I prevent the backup from failing once it gets to them?
Well as Microsoft describes the files as temporary and that they are deleted as soon as they are closed I wonder if your problems relate to these files being deleted before BackupExec completes backing them up.
Unless anyone has advice to the contrary I'd be tempted to omit these files from your backup.

The error I get is ("Unable to open the item D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\1.S TF") I think the error occures because the file is in use, and when the backup exec software tries to access this file it can't and throws the error.
The article suggests that the change names periodically change so I would have to manually select each file not to backup every night. I dont want to have to baby the the backup forever.

>Wouldn't you just add D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\*.S TF to the excludes selection list?
Exactly, although you normally omit the whole mdbdata folder. The backup through the Exchange agent deals with the Exchange database files.
