The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Partition Magic error creates 1x hidden HPFS partition instead of 2x NTFS partitions.

No rescue discs, no backup available (I know, I'm a bonehead for getting too comfortable with the utility software). In an attempt to split a 74 GB partition into more manageable segments, Partition Magic returned an error during the reboot process, converting the original partition to hidden HPFS. The only 2 options on the shortcut menu in Partition Magic for this partition are: Delete and Info. I do not want to delete the patrition because it has approximately 45 GB of necessary data. The Info option returns error #102 Boot sector information not correct. I managed to get the partition unhidden through the Partition Magic Scripting Tools, but all attempts to convert to any other file system ends in error #1830 when the script hits "Convert...". Windows XP Pro & 2K AS now recognize the drive, but see it as unformatted.
System Information:

O/S: Win 2K AS & WinXP Pro on Drive-0

Problematic Drive-1: 3 partitions:

H-Dellsysinfo 31.3 MB NTFS, first physical sector 63 (cyl 0, hd 1, sect 1), last physical sector 26259 (cyl 3, hd 254, sect 63), total physical sectors 64,196 (31.3 MB), Physical geometry 9726 cyls, 255 hds, 63 sects;

G 76,253.8 MB HPFS (no other data available);

Unallocated data 7.8 MB, first physical sector 156,232,125 (cyl 9,725, hd 0, sect 1), last physical sector 156,248,189 (cyl 9,725, hd 254, sect 63), total physical sectors 16,065 (7.8 MB), Physical geometry 9726 cyls, 255 hds, 63 sects.

Attempted convert from command line returns invalid drive.

I have also tried the "Pinball.sys" tricks in a couple different ways without luck. (although the pinball.sys was from NT 3.1, not 3.51)

Is there any hope to recover this information?
