The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. New Hard Disk....Need Help.......

Hi everybody......
i have a dell dimension 8400,P 4 3.6 HT,512 mb,160 GB Seagate Barracuda ST3160023AS 8 MB,Win XP SP2.....ATI X 300 SE,DVD-ROM,DVD-RW
i have only around 4 gigs free space now.....and have decided to buy a new hard disk.....
the following are my questions.....
1.Dell sold me the pc saying i have 160 gigs of space.but right now i have only 145 gigs available.where is the remaining 15 gigs ? the file system is NTFS.and there is only one partition (c)
2.I saw a maxtor 300 gig internal hard disk at a good price here in toronto......the drive has a 16 MB buffer.Will the maxtor drive work properly along with my present seagate since they have different buffer sizes ?
3.If the above answer is positive ,will the difference in buffer size make any significant difference in performance ? i will be using the new drive mainly for movies......
4.Will the new drive require an OS ?
5.i have also seen a Hitachi drive with 250 GB of formatted space......."formatted space"..means the actual usable space....right ?
6.Hitachi....?...have any of you guys heard about hitachi hard drives ?.........
7.maxtor,seagate and WD are the best ......right ?
8.will i be required to buy a new power supply...i have no idea about the present power rating ?
9.How do i find out if my motherboard supports two or more hard disks?.......
