I've had Iomega's Predator on here with USB 1.0. I was rather nasty! Iomega admitted it was not a great machine. They replaced it with their USB CD-R/RW using Hotburn Pro (current upgrade).
I install it and I can burn perhaps two CD-Rs and then I can't do any more. I have to uninstall, reboot, reinstall and pray. Sometimes I have to wait a long time to get it to work again. Iomega has spent a LOT of time with me. They know I have USB 1.0 with a hub, but the machine is attached directly to the computer. Although this would run faster on USB 2.0 and has it as "USB 2.0 PC" on its install CD they say the 1.0 is no problem. I'm not so sure.
Before I get all over them again, does anyone think I should go for the USB 2.0? If so, what am I looking for exactly. I have only two USB ports on the back of my Dell Dimension (older model but a great one) so the hub is one and the burner uses the other.
I've worked on this problem off and on (as I can tolerate it!) for about 10 months. I must burn my photos to the gold CD-Rs. NOW!
I assume this is a card I need to swap out? But if 1.0 is okay per Iomega what do you all think is going on? I need to close this question within five days so it's a bit urgent. My warranty time is running out; I'm sick and tired of getting into huge discussions with the techs and then having it all revert to doing nothing but reject (and ruin) CDs. I use Verbatims and Delkin's e-film Archival Gold CD-Rs as recommended by them (well, Verbatim at least, and golds are far higher in quality).
If you think I HAVE to buy yet another card (I use Win2000) be very specific as to exact name so I can run a search for it on the Internet because I then have to buy a new HUB. I have to operate frugally right now so I cannot toss a bunch of dollars if it is not needed. Everything else I have going into the HUB is working beautifully (printer, scanner, mouse, cameras, and again, the burner is connected right to the computer.
Thanks!
