I have a small biz customer that doesn't seem to follow my backup recommendations. While it is impossible to prevent all storage problems I want to focus on hard drive failure. We have had this problem in the past and I recommended windows backup as the simplest solution.
But the customer only backs up "when he thinks about it"! This is exasperating as I am held responsible when he loses data...so onto the question!
I am looking for the simplest solution in the advent of total hd failure. I have discussed using a hd swap solution yet I now find that that is not as simple as I once thought. Which brings me to hd mirroring...I understand that this will not offer much protection against virus damage but will offer fast up time turn around in the advent of total hd failure.
Also, how does one get Drive "b" identical to Drive "a" to start the mirror. Once the mirror is working how hard is it to "boot" from Drive "b" should Drive "a" fail.
One of the biggest problems is location ie: I am an hours drive from the customer. I am looking for a temporary solution that the customer can handle with little disruption in his business...until I can get on site and fix the problem!
Be prepared to hold my hand as I have to admit this is my first foray into raid soultions!
