XP boots to active boot partition 1 of drive0, the default location of a new XP install that allows XP to work. Like speed of Raptor, want to load XP on that drive. Have old XP install on active partition 1 of WD Raptor from previous ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mobo with SI RAID controller - worked fine with Boot.ini set to boot from drive1, partition0 . . . unusual, yes, but it worked. New mobo/drive configuration less accomodating.
Tried the following:
1. WD SATA connected to red Promise SATA1 connector
2. WD IDE connected to IDE primary connector
3. BIOs set to:
OnChip SATA - Enabled
OnBoard Promise Controller - Enabled; Operating Mode - OnBoard IDE Operation
4. On boot, VIA BIOs finds no drives (expected)
5. On boot, Promise BIOs finds WD Raptor drive (expected)
6. XP installed to WD IDE, boots fine.
7. Disconnect WD IDE drive.
8. Boot to XP CD.
9. F6, use floppy to add VIA Raid drivers, Promise 378ATA, Promise 378RAID drivers
10. XP asks to install Win new or Repair - choose Repair
11. FixBoot to set WD Raptor boot partition
12. Exit Recovery Console.
13. XP cannot find WD Raptor, F3 to exit.
Mobo specific suggestions welcome.
Since this is Friday, over weekend will try connecting WD Raptor to VIA mobo RAID connector,
see if WD Raptor found by BIOs and XP will install.
