Browse All TopicsI have a Restore CD that came with my emachines PC. I am having trouble getting the Norton Ghost application that copies the operating system image to my hard disk to work properly. I have obtained a new Restore CD (2 disks) and I am having the very same problem. When I put the CD in the CD-ROM drive and restart the pc, I get a choice to "Restore Windows Millennium" and I choose it and just after the Norton Ghost 6.03 application starts a message box pops up which states:
"Question: A:\Output Ghost.err? with the options of Yes or No. Either way I get another message that states: "Critical Error 0x00 Attempt to write to a write-protected disk". I have tried inserting a floppy into the a: drive, but the drive light does not come on as if it's trying to access the a: drive and I know the floppy I am using is ok and is not write protected. It seems as though Norton Ghost is actually trying to output the "ghost.err" file to my d: (cd-rom) drive. I have purchased and installed a brand new, virtually identical hard disk as the original one and am getting the same results. I am able to take a copy I have of a stand alone operating system (Win98SE) and it will load and run just fine on the hard disk. I could buy another licensed copy of an operating system, but I can't afford to keep spending money on the computer. I desperately need to know why I am having this problem with the original, manufacturers restore CD that came with my computer so I can put it back into use. I have tried emachines support, but they will only go so far with help as the computer was manufactured back in 2000. Anyway, my point is, to my knowledge and their admission, the restore cd is not working properly because of some issue with the image on the cd. I am leaving the possibility open that there is hope of getting the Windows Millennium operating system that is on the cd on to my computer. Thanks for your help.
