Sending ATA Commands to CompactFlash Card in USB Card Reader

I would like to send ATA commands to the CompactFlash card that is inserted into a USB card reader on my Win XP system. Specifically, I would like to send the "Identify Drive" command (0xEC) to verify that the card is indeed a CompactFlash card. I have searched the web and not much information seems to be out there about this. I would assume that there is some kind of DeviceIoctl call you can make to do this, but I haven't found one. The card that I am trying to read is not formatted (and never will be). I can open the card as a physical device using the CreateFile( "\\\\.\\PhysicalDriveX",...) routine. Any help with this would be appreciated.
