Here is what has happened.
I had a file server:
10 - 78 gig drives raid 5 in an IBM server.
Yesterday something went wrong and it stopped functioning and well somehow the serv raid card got taken out put back in and all sorts of stuff i presume. (Now I show up on scene) and find that the server wont detect the raid card at all. So I presume its dead. Acutally what had happened was someone moved it from a 66Mhz 3.3v slot to a 33MHz 5.0 volt slot. I didn't test w/ it cause well it was in that slot when i got there and i was told it wasn't moved but just reseated. Well i fiind out that it goes in the other slot put it in boot up the raid configuration and the array is gone there is nothing just my 10 drives.
The machine had:
C: - 5.86 GIG formatted NTFS
D: CD ROM
E: - 540GIG formatted NTFS
This box is old and way before my time w/ the company so i have no clue how this was setup this way. The only way it comes close to adding up is:
1 9 drive raid 5 array w/ 1 hot spare
1 C: logical volume of 5.86 gig
1 E: logical volume of 550 some gig
Formatted NTFS this all might be right. But if i set it up this way all my data that is currently on all those drives from the previous setup is toast right?
So is there any way to get this data back? I do have tape but i'm finding many things were not backed up.
Thanks,
