The situation is that critical! Aight heres the story...
O/S: Windows XP Pro w/svcpk2; Hardware: HP Compaq NX6110
My company implements roaming profiles amongst our users. All of their domain profiles synchronize with SERVER A ... while their MY DOCUMENTS contents synchronize with SERVER B. This is fairly new setup because both of sets of data used to synchronize to different locations on server A:
OLD WAY:
Profiles -------------> \\SERVER A\shared folder\domain profiles
My Docs ------------> \\SERVER A\shared folder\MYDOCS data
NEW WAY:
Profiles -------------> \\SERVER A\shared folder\domain profiles
My Docs ------------> \\SERVER B\shared folder\MYDOCS data
We implemented group policy based folder redirection scripts to automatically move folks from one server to the other. All they would notice was a slight bump in logon time during transfer and verification. No biggle. Everything worked well for weeks.
Now one of our high level execs was away with laptop visiting various satellite offices and compiling detailed notes for a period of 3months then returned to main office. As soon as he jacked into the network then his mydocs folder tried to synch to old location ... of course it was unable ... then defaulted to its own offline target folder version of Server A. Still no biggie.
One of our techs went to him and did following:
1. Ran the ipconfig /flushdns /release /renew commands in succession.
2. Ran gpresult /v command and noticed laptop wasnt catching the folder redirect policy then gpupdate /force command to force laptop to reload all policies, restart and reconnect freshly. The final step gave appearance that everything synched properly. Unfortunately this wasn't the case due to separate set of circumstances.
But regardless and to cut straight to the chase after the buildup ... (PROBLEM enters stage left) ... the tech wound up CLEARING the offline cache folder via REINITIALIZATION by using CTRL+SHIFT then clicking delete and restarting pc. Its at this point when the cruel realization that everything seeped in that synch wasn't properly done since all the user had available were older docs from before leaving office. Not a good situation. Especially since user didn't have any backups. Not good at all.
SO THAT BRINGS US TO THIS POINT: HELP! Does anyone have any clues? Ideas? Suggestions? I'm open to absolutely ANYTHING that will bring back those docs prior to Monday morning.
P.S> Already tried the CSC option IN CONJUNCTION with Microsoft Support on phone. The cost of $250 was quickly refunded after a few hours of running in circles. So any other option except CSC will be viewed with open arms. Any software vendor that specializes in this type of data recovery will swiftly make some money from me too! I just need to recover these files!
Thx guys!
