The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Do Seek errors mean your hard drive is dammaged beyond repair?

Asked by TomStarich in Hard Drives & Storage, Disk Partition Tools, Computer Hard Drives

HDAT2 is was chosen to attempt to repair a 40 Gig Segate Hard disk after Sea Tools zero write low level format was unsuccessful (basically the Sea Tools low level format or zero write would hang and not complete) The program would try first to verify a sector and report seek failed. Then the program would attempt to write to that same sector and report Unknown error, then it would again try to verify that sector and report Seek failed.

Partition Magic was also used to try to fix the drive. Just as the format of the drive would complete Partition Magic would report error number 1551 "Partition FULL", file 0(0)

Spin Write reported the folllowing error: Critical error with verification of ability to read and write to drive, due to Hardware of firmware (Bios) Trouble (Recommend update of Bios)

Is the course recommended feasable do Bios effect the function of HD is it possible to update the firmware of a Segate Hard Drive.

Or is this hard drive simply toast??

We tried to remove the two partions on the Hard Drive with fdisk and when we would look again at the drive the partitions were still there. Even though we properly went through the steps in fdisk to remove the partitions.

We tried alternate hard drives in the computer and were successful at formatting and loading an operating system, however all of our available hard drives were too small for use and we want to recover the 40 gig hard drive.
