OS X - Mapping external hard drives on log-in.

Have recently bought a new mac for first time - OS X 10.4.9 and would like to map 2 external shared drives that are sitting on my home network. On my Windows PC, when I map the drives and reboot the drives remain mapped and am trying to do the same thing on the mac.

I have been using system preferences/accounts/login items and adding adding drives. this does map the drives when rebooting but I now have 2 windows launch (1 for each drive) everytime I log on. Am I doing this correctly, is there a way for the mapping to happen in the background ready for me when I need them.

Thanks

You can automatically mount your Windows drive every time you login to your Mac by adding it to your Login items. In System Preferences, Accounts, choose the "Login Items" tab and add the Volume to the list of apps that automatically start up.

Thanks - As I said in my post I did try your soloution.. It does mount the drive but everytime I login a window displaying the drive appears. Is there a way to map/mount the drive without having to put up with the window?

@ th3joker - that works great for mounting a share. However, the OP wants to mount a share *and* close or otherwise not show the resulting new Finder window for the share. For that, a slightly more complicated approach is necessary.
I provided a link which described all the available options and detailed how they work.
@DrNikon224 I think you will find that the solution I posted will mount the drives and doesn't open them in a window after mounting. Therefore the solution provides exactly what the poster requested with the required instructions.
@th3joker - you're right - using 'mount' instead of the 'open' in my script works perfectly. I had to compare your script to mine to notice the difference - don't know why it hadn't occurred to me to use the 'mount' command instead. I'll add this to my bag of tricks.

Recommend points for th3joker.
