I recently built a new system . The components are Intel core2 duo e6600 cpu, Intel D946GXis motherboard, 250 gig segate sata drive, 2 gig corsair ram, and a LG 18x DVE+/-RW drive.
Stayed with Windows Media Center for a operating system because the customer has heard to many things - about Vista. Problem is Everything went well with the install. But during the location setup it would not read the cd to install printer drivers etc. I replaced the cd/dvd with a idential one and did the installs needed. Next day they called that their accountant could not get the cd to read. I have since replaced it with a Nec DVD burner It did not read either.(these have all been ide burners). . So I put in a Sony sata dvd burner thinking bad cable or ide controller on board but it does exactly the same thing and does not read either. In all the cases the drive is recognized as drive D: in windows explorer and it shows it as a DVD Ram drive. I notice that when I put in a cd it changes to calling it a CD Drive but shows it as nothing on the cd. Have tried a number of different cds that I know are good cds. Devise manager says it is working fine. Tested 2 of the DVD drives in different computer and they worked in it. Any help would be appreciated.
