Could somebody shed some light on this topic for me?
I just aquired a fairly decent deal through Ebay on an older Dell PowerVault 200S SCSI Raid Array, which supports 8 SCSI drives, and were included in the auction.
I already own an IBM x335 Series Server, and would like to purchase the equipment needed to get it all connected.
--------------------
The PowerVault specifications (according to the manual directly from Dell's website) are as follows:
External Ports
Ultra2 SCSI (LVD) or Ultra3 SCSI 68-pin connector in a nonredundant configuration, and two
68-pin connectors in a redundant configuration (or Ultra2/
Ultra3 cluster mode for ESEM and SEMM)
While the IBM xSeries x335 has the following information from it's manual:
Expansion slots:
v One full-length adapter slot
supports up to 100 MHz/64-bit
PCI-X adapters (bus A)
v One half-length adapter slot
supports up to 100 MHz/64-bit
PCI-X adapters (bus B) or 33
MHz 32-bit PCI adapters (bus C)
v Supports 3.3 V or universal
adapters only
--------------------
As I've been around SCSI a little, I've never actually gotten into the different specs and everything in between until just now.
A quick search from NewEgg proved that. :)
I already have on hand an external 68 Pin SCSI cable, so that's the way I'd need to go, with any PCI card. But I'm a little confused on the standards. Such as, there's a VHDCI connector, a High Density connector, etc.
Would somebody be able to show me what the PCI side of the equation I would need to pick up?
