Can NTFS file folder compression actually IMPROVE performace???

Hi All,

Having observed a large number of slow computers due to hard disk activity I started to wonder if activating file and folder NTFS compression on a computer with slow HDD but fast CPU can actually give the HDD bottle a bigger neck? Can a fast CPU actually compensate for the loss of processing time with much better HDD bandwidth and give an overall better performance?

Has anybody run that kind of a test?
