Free HDD Partition Software
Hey all,
I understand that there is *typically* a strong correlation between cost and quality, but I'm looking for a FREE HDD Partition Software.
I see that the most popular HDD Partition software is "Partition Magic". However, this costs. I understand that there is a free trial on it, however, is this a 30 day trial? If I've made a partition, once the 30 days are up, what happens? Or are there just limitations to it's features??
I don't want to download it (approx 22MB) on dial-up, only to find out that it's a 30 day trial.
Thanks in advance,
[r.D]

There is cd distro at http://www.sysresccd.org/ which includes qtparted and some other partition progs.
The partitions won't be removed on the trial version of Partition Magic. The product will stop functioning meaning you won't be able to repartition anything, but he ones you have created will stat intact
Have it go this way;

Ranish partition manager, which is mentioned above, *ALSO* gets a strong vote by me. I've used it successfully for years. It's got a LOT of horsepower, and can do much. The user interface is relatively easy to learn.
Cool bonus: It comes with a sort of "fake" mode too, where you can "play" with fiddling around with your disk's partitions, without actually doing anything for real. Kind of "practice", until you get comfortable with it.
Totally free. NOT a demo, or trialware, or... just... free.

PS: Addendum to my previous post: Ranish is **SMALL**. Even over a dialup link, you'll have it in minutes or less. Just add it to a typical windows98 boot floppy (see: www.bootdisk.com for a copy if you don't have one). (again.. FREE too)

Was is necessary to backup data before making partition, just being carefull when dealing with freeware?.
