The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Are you sure you have the correct disc for the correct drive.  If it is a DVD and it is a CD burner you will get this type of error.

All was working fine a number of days ago  I do not know what may have caused it.  No I placing a blank cd to copy or move files there is no problem with software or wrong disc.
(I hope I'm replying right I am new to this site) thank you

Use "Restore system" to a date before the starting of the problem.

Check your drivers for the dvd-rw.
Put it back where it was working, -Start - right click My computer - Manage - click on Device Manager -
open DVD/CD-ROM drives - Right click on the DVD name for your DVD - select properties - select driver folder - click on Diver Details button - note the drivers in use. (green check mark beside the name)
Now mount the DVD in the PC where it was not working and compare the drivers in use.
Alternatively you can from the DVD Properties menu also click on Update driver or Roll Back Driver.

I did try unistall driver and restart computer with no change the update driver could not find a better driver and I do not qiute understand what you mean when I get to Driver details, I have four with green check marks ;  dvd in pc part are you talking about the hardware or placing disc in dvd drive and how do I choose one driver with green check mark? Thanks

Restore system I have not tried because of worry of things that I placed on computer not showing up so if I have to do restore system I like to try last
Thank you

The one's with the green check marks is the files in use, typically located in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVER\
Uninstalling your DVD will not remove the driver files from your pc. So if the drivers has a problem, you will get them back when you reinstall the DVD.
1. Write down the file names in use (greeen marked)
2. Remove the DVD
3. REMOVE the files in use to a other location (use explorer)
3. Install DVD,
4 Now it will look for new files since the old ones is removed by you.

Hi, I ended up quarantining drivers using taskman appl. and restarted computer the drivers seem to have come back but I have reconnected dvd and now D:/  icon does not show up in my computer, so I went to device manger and it shows up with yellow! mark and says-  Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19). I dont know if things are getting better or worse!
thanks for all your answers so far
