So I've got this WD 250gb external (no external power source) hard drive:
http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-WDXMS2500TN-Passport-Portable/dp/B000RY2PLQWorks great on my MacBookPro which can power it sufficiently. My wife's older Power Book cannot, so this is the solution I found:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_e/103-8948062-1648611?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=USB+2.0+Power+Boost+cable&x=12&y=22However...on the old Power Books, the 2 USB ports are on opposite sides of the computer. I don't see length mentioned on the cord above, so I don't know if it will reach. If it doesn't, I need an extension, right? But will USB 2.0 extensions all still pass the power through? I've seen "active" and "passive" extension cables.
So the solution to this question is either:
1) You idiot, the cable sizes are right in front of your nose and will reach fine across the 18" or so you need
OR
2) You just need this USB 2.0 extension: ________ to be sure the power boost cable still powers your hard drive.
Thanks!
