Laptop not recognizing usb ports

Zones: Removable Backup Media, Digital Camera Accessories, PC Laptops

When I try to use a flash memory card or if I try to use the usb to download picture from acamera it says the drive is not recognized.

I would look to see if there is any hardware updates for your laptop. Also, if you right click "My Computer", properties, Hardware (tab), then click on Device Manager. When that box comes up, is there anything in red(x) or yellow(!)? If so what is it next to?

Assume you have XP OS with service pack 2 (or better). In device manager, remove or delete all usb entries and let windows redetects and reinstall drivers again. Reboot system and try again see if it helps.

when you say remove or delete do you mean uninstall usb root hub? windows xp.runinstall usb controllers? The ! is yellow

disconnect all usb devices, and delete, or uninstall ALL usb entries in the usb section of device manager, reboot and test
