PEN Drive / Thumb Drive not accessible

Hi Experts,

My Pen Drive seems to have malfunctioned and whenever I try to open / Explore it, I get the following message.
"Please Insert a Disk into Drive J"
I have tried to format it but I get the following message
"There is no disk in Drive J. Kindly insert a disk and try again"
What I need to do now ?

Lets see here do you have any other drives in your computer that could be using the J drive sometimes another drive usually a compact flash reader or other type of card reader will take that drive letter.

If this is a windows machine you may want to try the disk management tool. If you see the pen drive showing up in there than most likely you just need to assign it a drive letter that is not in use.

I tried the above option. But the Drive is not showing there. What I need to do now except Off course praying :)

I'd bet the drive has failed. Can you try it in another machine? If it's not recognised there as we say "the smoke has come out of it"...and you need to buy another one...

Try to roll back the USB concentrators. In device manager right click on USB port - uninstall. The same for all others. Sure the USB drives should be disconnected.
Then restart machine and connect the USB drive, does it produce the same error?

Thanks for the suggestions.
First I have tried it on other systems. No avail. The result is same.

Noxcho - Let me clear one thing more. On my system other Pen Drives are functioning very smoothly except this one. Do I really need to uninstall and reinstall USB connectors in my case ?

Nobus - I am going to try handy recovery. Will be back with the results.

In this case the drive itself is bad. So no need to roll back the drivers for USB.
Either recovery tool (I doubt it will work) or through it to rubbish basket and buy new one.

Hi,

I used handy recovery and am getting the following message :

"No valid supported file system present on the volume."

and Operation Log says :

Warning : Bad Sector at 0x0000000000000000

Any Hope ?

I guess no. The files system structure is corrupted so you have no chance.

From this error it look (Warning : Bad Sector at 0x0000000000000000)  the pen drive is gone. and i think there is no use to waste lot of time on the bad disk just dump the disk and buy (corsair pen drive) according to ur requirement of space

it may even be a counterfeit one; i had one like that, and it also died on me very fast; the genuine ones, however, up to now, still work
