The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Not able to copy files

Tags: microsoft, windows xp home
Hi guys.
I am trying to copy songs from a usb hard drive to a sd card. I got about 1/4 of the card filled then all of the sudden a box started popping up that says Error Copying File or Folder in the title. Then in the box it says Cannot copy (file name's) the directory or file cannot be created.
I have rebooted both drives rehooked all cables etc... I still get the same box. The thing that I don't understand is I had this same problem with another card last week, so I tried another card. Why will it let me copy about a 1/4 of the card then all of the sudden quit????????
I can move from the external drive to my desktop, then If I try to go back to the card I get the same error box. I can also play the files from the drive and the card so the machine is reading them all right it just wont let me transfer.
Help.............................................
Thanks

See if you copy over some files, try and isolate which file might be causing the issue as it may be corrupted or tagged as open and in use.

05.10.2008 at 06:20PM PDT, ID: 21541172
I thought about it being in use when this first happened so I clased Windows Media Player to make sure it wasn't in use. I also just went onto the card and renamed one song,(it renamed just like it should) then I went to rename another and got that same box except this time it read cannot rename file.
What do you mean about try to copy over it? I did just go choose a song at random and drug it over and told it to copy, the box poped up saying it already existed do I want to replace, I told it yes and it worked fine but still won't let me move the rest onto the card.(which I double checked, it is only 1/4 full)
What confuses me is it will let me move from the drive to the desktop, it just wont let me move to the card but as I said it will play off of the card ctc........so the card/drive is being recognized.

How do I check to see if a file is tagged in use????????????
I have checed properties they are all marked archive

05.10.2008 at 07:26PM PDT, ID: 21541270
Don't select all the files at once, move over in small groups, and if it errors then try smaller different groups.

05.10.2008 at 07:27PM PDT, ID: 21541271
You can't tell with certainty unless windows gives a message is open.

05.10.2008 at 07:38PM PDT, ID: 21541296
I have tried moving just one at a time. I get the same thing

05.10.2008 at 07:46PM PDT, ID: 21541310
I have also tried to rewrite some files I already got moved succefilly. And I couldn't rename some of the files already moved to the card. It just doesn't make any sence.

05.11.2008 at 12:17PM PDT, ID: 21543209
Have you tried copying to your hard drive first and then to the SD card?

05.11.2008 at 01:52PM PDT, ID: 21543451
Yes. as I said I can move to my desktop from the external drive, It won't transfer to the card then. but correct me if im wrong but the desktop is part of the hard drive on my main machine right?????????/
By the way the when I refer to the main computer I am using a laptop with a built in card slot.

05.12.2008 at 05:03PM PDT, ID: 21551394
Yes the desktop is part of the hard drive.  Have you tried updating your card reader drivers as this seems to be where your issue is.

05.17.2008 at 05:46PM PDT, ID: 21591223
Where would I go to update the drivers?????????
I have a Toshiba Satellite Lap top with a built in card reader.

Hey Kutyi.
When this strand went idol last week and appeared to be going nowhere I listed the same question in a different catagory. Guess what? It worked. The problem was with the fat 32 file system only taking so much info in the foot file. The solutionr was to make a couple different subfiles and break the info up. I was able to fill the card up using that method.
I was going to see who did the most work on this and award the points to close this question. I logged on and noticed you were the only one to participate on this one, so congrats. I will give the points to you.
Thank you for trying.
