usb port error

none of my usb devices,printer hdd ets, will work when plugged directly into any ports (4) they all will work when plugged through a usb hub plugged into any port. I get malfunction/corrupt message when plugged directly and can perform faster when plugged through the hub. Running xp pro on a packard bellStart Free Trial
