The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Snap server failure ? / problems / questions / issues / raid 1 configuration

Asked by Techsupportwhiz in Storage Technology, Computer Hard Drives, Computer Servers

we have a snap server 2200 in raid 1 configuration.  people started losing access to the shared drive on it this afternoon.

I could still ping its IP address and name
going to \\snap, the page started to load,m but neer finished
going to http://snap, it also started to load but never got anywhere.
the top 3 lights on the snap server were bliniking randomly like they ususally do.

after waiting 1/2 hour for a change in this, I pulled the plug on the snap server, waited 20 seconds and then reapplied power.  I can now access the http://snap admin panel.  it shows all the shares, says they are unavailable and are being checked.  drive status was stuck at 5% for quite a while, but as I type this, it's now at 25% complete.

I can browse the log for the server and before the restart entry, there's nothing in the log to indicate a problem today:

S  System Initialization : Server v4.0.860
Build Date: Mar 2 2005 17:50:55
Boot Count: 15  System   3/21/2007   4:37:38 PM
I  File System : Extended Rights Backup for device 0x50000 has completed successfully  Disk 50000
Mirror   3/20/2007  11:19:26 PM
I  File System : Extended Rights Backup for device 0x50000 has begun  Disk 50000
Mirror   3/20/2007  11:03:50 PM

scanning the log for the past year, there's nothing other than these informations about rights backups and a couple listings of a machine or 2 not connected ot the domain controller.  no indications of a server restart as far back as the log shows - 365 days...

any comments on why we lost access to the drive?
What is the right way to resolve that?  Just pull the power plug and reboot?
is there any maintenance I should be doing on the server

it's at 42% now.  assuming it comes up OK, is there anything I need to worry about?Start Free Trial
