SAN Benchmarking-SQL I/O Stress

Hello,
I know very little about the I/O throughput of Database connections. I few months ago, I was sold a SAN Solution which was "comparable" to, though obviously not as fast as, Direct Attached Storage. What I want to know is this: Is SAN really as fast as DAS? I am looking for hard data on this.
