I have a Windows Server 2008 (RTM) box that I am setting up for my DMZ
I plan to use the following configuration:
Windows Server 2008 x64 w/ Hyper-V parent OS
Virtual Machines:
2008 w/ SQL 2005
2008 w/Exchange 2007 (Edge Transport only)
2008 w/ IIS 7 and Coldfusion 8
The system has 3 physical NICS and 4 physical SATA drives (raptor 150gb).
(note: current raid controller is not a true hardware raid)
Would I be better off with one RAID 10 setup using all 4 drives and then a small partition for the Parent OS (Host OS) and create the child OS virtual drives on the remaining partition (or in each their own partition).
Or Two Raid 1 pairs. If this is the better way to go - where should I put the VMs (2 raid 1 Pairs) 3 VMs and a HOST - what goes with what.
Also welcome suggestions on the NIC configuration - my firewall (Astaro 220) has multiple ports so I was planning to have the NICS physically set up as follows (virtually each nic would behave like a switch for what ever VMs I wanted to plug into it)
NIC1 HOST and IIS/Coldfusion
NIC2 SQL 2005
NIC3 Exchange 2007 (Edge Transport)
SUggestions on NIC or HD configurations are most welcomed.
