Browse All TopicsI have an HP MSA1000 with two attached MSA30's. The first cabinet of disks (14) was populated with 72Gb disks and makes up one (1) RAID5 Array. I have been progressively swapping out those disks with 300Gb disks to expand the storage capacity. I replaced disk #10 on Thursday of the previous week and I noticed Monday of this week that one (1) of the three (3) logical drives is still "waiting for rebuild". The 2 other logical disks in this array completed rebuilding successfully. Is this the result of disk #10 being bad?
I have checked the evenet log on an attached server and found the following events:

The event log points to a different physical disk an all together seperate Array. I'm not showing any LED's on any of the disks. Jpeg Attached of ACU screen!!
Thanks!

Under the MSA1000 I see
Array accelerator status:
Dirty data detected. Unable to write dirty data to drives
There aren't any Fl Rd Recv or Fl Wt Recv
SCSI Port 1, Drive ID 8
may be dodgy - see last failure
SCSI Port 2, Drive ID 1
has a lot errors on one block 00021280
It's the accelerator status that worries me.
I looked at the documentation and it says the following -
Accelerator Status: Dirty Data Detected... ...Unable to write dirty data to drives
Description: At least one cache line contains dirty data that the controller has been unable to flush (write) to the drives. This problem usually occurs when a problem with the drive or drives occurs.
Action: Resolve the problem with the drive or drives. The controller can then write the dirty data to the drives.
I'm still puzzled as to which steps to take next. I don't see any indications of bad drives thru ACU ... And the weird thing is why it is struggling with only one of the three logical drives on the array. I dont guess adding a spare in the group would fix the issue? If one of the drives is indeded bad would the controller pick up the spare and push the data there??
Both SCSI port 1 drive 8 and SCSI port 4 drive 5 have "hrd read" errors. Counts are the same for both Factory and Since Power. I'd like to see it power-cycled and then see if the hrd read count since power comes back on one of the disks under the ACU report and then swap that disk. Unfortunately though this may fail the logical drive that hasn't rebuilt yet.
Adding a spare is unlikely to help - it really looks like it's backup/restore time.

Can you also post a physcial view - the error message is not consistent with how you say the arrays are set up?
