Currently the DAE has 9 drives with a hot spare in a RAID5 configuration.
There is live data on the raid and must not be affected.
We want to expand that RAID to increase the size from 6TB to 7TB+
THE DRIVES ARE 750GB SATA DRIVES
Thank you.

Hi dano992,
I'm curious as to why you assigned a 'C' - as far as I can see, the answer that I offered addresses your question and should be graded accordingly. If there was some additional information you need I'm happy to help. Could you review the FAQ about grading here: http://www.experts-exchang
Thanks,

A RAID group expansion could take up to a week depending on how busy the RAID group is, and the priority you set for the migration. It's a background task, so unless migration priority is cranked up to ASAP, host I/O takes priority. YOu can be completely comfortable that the data s 100% safe during the expansion.
An alternative is to use metaLUNs to expand the RAID group. It's simple to do a concatenated or striped expansion, and quite a bit quicker. The other thing to be aware of is support for LUNs for larger than 2TB is limited in most OSs.
