Dear philb19,

when you state the "Windows server" has not picked up the change, do you then mean that the volume on the Windows Server which resides on the LUN, hasn't increased it's size?
Then what you'd need to do on the Windows Server, is to increase the size of the volume through "Disk Management" (diskmgmt.msc).
Please tell.

Kind regards,
Soren

just looking at it - Im thinking we need to run NETAPP snapdrive on the windows servers - and expand the drive - from the windows server itself

DISMGMT - doesnt show any space either - but expand option using NETAPP snapdrive - does say i can expand? - any netapp people out there?
Rescan disks in disk management, that should see the extra space, then you can expand with diskpart.exe.

no - this did nothing sorry -

its a NETApp snapdrive resize - i think that is required

Keep in mind that if you expand the LUN via snapdrive, windows will resize the LUN for you, otherwise you will need to either rescan storage or remove and re-add LUN.

Also be carefull, if you are using snapshots make sure you leave enough space on the volume, otherwise you may run out of room.  Normally we expand the volume that houses the LUN first then the LUN itself.

When you increase decrease LUN without snapdrive, windows doesn't see it.  Snapdrive is nice because it will script the unmount and remount but it will take the LUN offline for a split second, we just have to make sure all the services  that use it are stopped..not really a big deal but catches a few people off guard

Yes your right we increased the volume with the web interface to the Netapp filer itself. Yet to touch with snapdrive on the windows server itself. - So can I just clarify what your saying with snapdrive (- it takes the LUN offline for a second while i do the re-size? - If so are you saying i should only do this after hours - its a exchange 2007 box - so I should stop all exchange services before doing an expand of the drive with snapdrive?? - thanks again

sorry im green with sans/nas - netapps etc
Are you using SnapManager for Exchange with or without Snapdrive or are you just mapping LUNs to be used by Exchange?

just mapping luns to be used by exchange
In the past I have made sure I had a good backup.

Looks like this thread covers what you have.  If you're using Windows 2003 you'll need to use diskpart.  Just rescan the storage and see if you have the added space (I'm used to snapdrive..).    If Windws 2008 just grow to include new space.

What size in the new LUN?

When you rescan your storage in Windows do you see the extra space
